National Institute of Family and Life Advocates president Thomas Glessner has released the following statement regarding the CBO report [cbo.gov] and examining the possibilities of defunding of Planned Parenthood:

“Planned Parenthood should be defunded because its business is based upon killing unborn children. Beyond any and all other reasons, defunding should take place for this reason.

Furthermore, many of the contraceptives provided by Planned Parenthood double as abortion-inducing drugs and devices — meaning that pregnancies are being ended by Planned Parenthood instead of being prevented. The FDA, Congress, and the abortion industry have long refused to acknowledge this scientific reality, which means the CBO report is based upon a false understanding of pregnancy prevention.

This is not CBO’s fault, but it is the reality of the situation. It is also notable that the World Health Organization considers the Pill a Class-1 Carcinogen, and various other birth control methods have been linked to significant health risks for women.

On the positive side, taxpayers benefit from this provision. CBO reports that taxpayers would spend $156 million fewer dollars over a decade by defunding Planned Parenthood, even if women used more Medicaid dollars during their pregnancies.

These savings could be even greater. The report does not address the work of 3,000 pro-life pregnancy resource centers, which help women choose life and — unlike Planned Parenthood — do not charge a dime to help vulnerable women with ultrasounds, maternity housing, education, adoption, and more. If Planned Parenthood funding went to pro-life centers instead of abortion profiteers, vulnerable women would be far better off. More importantly, so would their beautiful children, who we could then welcome into the world.”
